Communications Coordinator

The New York Sustainable Business Council (NYSBC) is a nonprofit organization working to advance a vibrant, just, and sustainable economy in New York State. As Communications Coordinator, you would help with base-building efforts that deepen our impact, engagement efforts on critical issues for New York State, and sponsorship efforts that support the growth of our team. Position Overview

NYSBC is seeking an experienced team-oriented Communications Coordinator who is enthusiastic about our mission and the opportunity to help drive positive change. This position will start as a part time 6-month contract position with the potential to be extended as well as broadened in scope or scaled to full time. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and scope of contract. This is a remote position with a strong preference for residents of New York State. The Communications Coordinator reports to NYSBC’s Executive Director. Primary responsibilities include effective use of social media and other communication channels, content development and editing, support of communications infrastructure initiatives, and communications planning and organizing.

Responsibilities

  • Work with Executive Director on high level communications strategy and planning across issues, audiences, content types, and all NYSBC communication channels.
  • Support communications infrastructure initiatives such as website redesign or transitioning to a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Edit or develop content for newsletters, social media, and website with an eye toward increasing awareness and engagement. 
  • Support NYSBC priorities and programming through targeted communications. 
  • Find or create attractive and relevant imagery to enhance visual communications.
  • Post content through all channels meeting deadlines where relevant.
  • Identify and post to relevant external social media sites to drive traffic to our content. 
  • Post press releases to relevant media contacts.
  • Create and maintain a content calendar including all communications channels. 
  • Gather and act on analytics as appropriate with an eye toward agreed upon targets for social media and email audience engagement. 
  • Find creative ways to attract new participants and influencers to our work.

Qualifications

  • Professional experience in communications and demonstrated expertise in social media marketing. 
  • Strong grasp of sustainability and social justice issues with an understanding of or desire to learn how these issues relate to business and the economy.
  • Mastery of digital and social media platforms and using analytics tools for tracking improvement. 
  • Ability to manage contacts within a CRM system.
  • Experience with email marketing and other communications software. 
  • Quick content drafting ability and strong editing skills.
  • Comfort with basic image manipulation such as cropping, overlaying text, or watermarking. More advanced graphic design skills would be welcomed and leveraged.
  • Experience with Google applications such as Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.
  • High level of professionalism and reliability.  
  • Very organized with attention to detail and good project management skills.
  • Highly collaborative and adept at working well in a team environment. 
  • Self starter, with ability to work independently with a proactive and hands-on approach to all aspects of communications and social media marketing.  
  • Ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances and meet deadlines. 
  • Driven to take initiative to work toward ongoing improvements and innovations.
  • Enthusiasm for NYSBC’s mission to advance a vibrant, just, and sustainable economy in New York State.
